Objective: To
observe apoptosis of peripheral blood lymphocyte (PBL) in children with
congestive heart failure (CHF) and the change of serum soluble Fas (sFas)
level, and explore the relationship between PBL apoptosis with the
pathogenesis of CHF.
Methods: Percentage
of apoptotic cell, DNA fragmentation, serum sFas and cardiac index (CI)
were determined in 32 patients with CHF and 20 age-matched healthy
children.
Results: Percentages
of apoptotic cells in cildren with CHF were increased significantly
(t=5.976, p<0.05) and DNA fragmentations were observed earlier in CHF
patients than control subjects; Serum sFas levels were increased in CHF
patients (t=3.939, p<0.05),the more severe in cardiac function damaged,
the more significant the sFas levels increased.
Conclusion:
The results suggest that increased PBL apoptosis may be involved in the
pathogenesis of CHF; It may be important that serum sFas level increased in
development of the disorder, both cardiomyocyte and PBL apoptosis in CHF
may be relative to activation of Fas gene in these cells.
