Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of P-transfer factor oral solution (P-TFO) combined with ketotifen (KTF) in decreasing the incidence of asthma following bronchiolitis.

Methods: 50 patients with bronchiolitis were given P-TFO and KTF compared with 46 patients with bronchiolitis without the treatment of P-TFO and KIF. The total course was 3~6 months and the average time of the following up was 1 year. Serum level of IgE, IgG, IgA, IgM and T lymphocyte subsets were tested before and after the treatment.

Results: 3/50 (6%) of the patients with bronchiolitis receiving P-TFO and KIF developed asthma compared with 13/46 (28.3%) of the controls with bronchiolitis (P<0.01). The immune function of the patients with bronchiolitis receiving P-TFO and KIF improved. The serum level of IgE and the ratio of CD4/CD8 decreased, and the CD3,CD8 counts were increased after the treatment.

Conclusions: P-TFO combined with KIF provided an effective way to decrease the incidence of asthma following bronchiolitis.
