Chest pain determined as the ¡°cardiac pain¡± are frequent reason for patient sending to pediatric cardiologists.
The etiology of thoracalgia are diverse: musculo-sceletal, cardiac, psychogenic, originated from respiratory system or gastrointestinal tract
We present the results of 24-hours pH-metry performed in 24 patients aged from 4,5 to 15,5 years, after exclusion by cardiologist cardiac, respiratory and musculo-sceletal springs of complaints.
Basing on performed tests gastroesophageal reflux was diagnosed in 17 (70,8%) of 24 patients.
In two cases the reflux was determined as severe, moderate and mild form of the disease was detected in 4 and 12 patients respectively.
In 8 children we didn¡¯t find any somatic cause of chest pain.
The differentiation among psychogenic source of chest pain and the pain originated from gastrointestinal disorders, require the widening diagnostic procedure by pH-metry and gastroduodenoscopy.
Our observation and literature review points at the increased number of patients with neurosal causes of thoracalgia (in our patients ¨C 30%).
Psychogenic origin of the chest pain can be identified only after exclusion all somatic causes of the symptom.
