Objective: Study on the influence of diet fiber on obese children’s carbohydrate absorption for treatment and prevention of simple obesity.
Methods: The ability to absorb carbohydrate of simple obese children (n=30) and normal children (n=58) was examined by the method of eliminated quantity of D-xylose in urine (XEQ) with the method of P-bromoaniline. The obese children were supplemented diet fiber 10g more than normal by eating food everyday within a term of 10 days.
Results: XEQ was 232.4±75.1mg/hour in normal children and 459.6±204.1mg/2 hour in obese children. XEQ of obese children was much higher than normal (t=5.546, p<0.001) and significant correlative with their obesity (r=0.517, p<0.01). Having been supplemented fiber, The obese children’s XEQ was reduced to 248.7±75.4mg/2hour, which was not significant different from normal children (t=0.204, p>0.10). Having been supplemented fiber for 10 days, the weight and waistline of obese children was reduced 2.4±0.9Kg, 3.7±2.5cm.
Conclusions: The simple obese children’s ability to absorb carbohydrate was much higher than normal children, which may be one of pathogenies of obesity. To increase the intake of diet fiber was beneficial to treat and prevent obesity.
