The role of thyroid hormones in newborns is of current interest, as thyroid deficiency may cause impairment of akinetic development. Of a special current interest is a problem of thyroid deficiency in newborns with perinatal brain injures.
There have been studied adaptation changes of hypophysial – thyroid system (thyrotropic hormone – TSH, free thyroxin – T4 and free triiodothyronine – T3). There have been examined 75 newborns who had perinatal hypoxi.
It was defined that the dynamics of free thyroid hormones coincides with thyroxin – T4 and triiodothyronine – T3 dynamics. There have been revealed consistent impairments of concentrations of thyrotropic hormone – TSH, thyroxin – T4 and triiodothyronine – T3 characteristic of severe and chronic hypoxi in newborns with perinatal encephalopathia.
It is recommended to prescribe thyroid medications in early neonatal period for newborns with perinatal encephalopathia.
