ADVANCES IN NEONATAL SURGERY IN CHINA

Neonatal surgery
is a relatively young field explored in the past few decades. It has now grown
to be mature profession in China. Most children¡¯s hospitals and affiliated
hospitals of state-renowned medical schools have now set up designated
departments with specialized personnel for neonatal surgery. Diagnosis and
treatment of surgical diseases in neonatal stage has been improved with the aid
of modern technology such as CT, MAI and endoscopy etc. and stressing on the
importance of perioperative care, respiratory management and use of parenteral
nutrition. Morbidity and mortality rates have been further lowered with the
collaboration of the Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU) in the recent years.
We have called on the first National Neonatal surgery was also branched out
from the Chinese Pediatric Surgery Journal in hope of assisting interaction of
new developments in the filed. The above mentioned is a summary of the
developments made in neonatal surgery in China.
