Bradley Fuhrman, Editor
Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) is a new journal, first published in July, 2000 and currently published quarterly. It is a Journal of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and of the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies, and is managed by the Staff of its parent journal, Critical Care Medicine . PCCM does not replace the Pediatric Section of the parent journal, which seeks pediatric papers of general interest that may appeal to intensivists serving adult patients. PCCM caters to the more narrow interests of pediatric intensive care practitioners and neonatologists. It is a more suitable journal for the publication of original work focused on issues of critical illness in infants and children. PCCM publishes Reviews, Clinical Investigations, Laboratory Investigations, Case Reports and Editorials. Abstracts of major meetings are published, often in more than one language. PCCM strives to serve the international community and makes a special effort to attract high quality international submissions written in the English language. The selection process for publication of original research weights novelty and significance of major findings very heavily. Clarity of presentation is also important. All manuscripts are reviewed by 2 or 3 experts. Reviewers’ comments are intended to thoughtfully enhance the organization and presentation of information in manuscripts. Most submissions benefit from these comments and are improved by responding to reviewers’ comments. Patrick Kochanek, MD, the Editor of PCCM, has assembled an outstanding international Editorial Board. Xun-mei Fan, Professor of Pediatrics at Beijing Children’s Hospital, is a member of the Editorial Board and provides editorial support and assistance to the Journal.
