Objective: To evaluate the nursing care methods for
the safety of intravenous passway during chemotherapy in acute childhood
leukemia.
Methods: Thirteen cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia
(ALL) and 18 of acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL) were observed with
the comparison of their extravasation from venous during chemotherapy in grouped
cases.
Results: No extravasation in ALL groups was observed
while there were 2 cases with extravasation in ANLL (11.1%, p<0.01).
Conclusion: The close attention to the venous by the nursing care and inspection during
chemotherapy in acute childhood leukemia is useful to facilitate the
effectiveness of therapeutic protocol being carried out successfully and
therefore reducing pain and phlebitis during chemotherapy.
