Objective: To prove that asthma patient early
diagnosis and therapy are essential in avoiding airway remodelling.
Methods: We analysed clinical histories of 50
children aged 1 to 4 years who in anamnesis had had repeated wheezing
episodes (2-6 episodes).
Results: 30% of children were diagnosed with
infections triggered by mycoplasma pneumoniae and chlamidia trachomatis.
56% of children in anamnesis had different food allergies. 82% of children
had atopic dermatitis. Parents of 52% of children had allergic diseases.
During therapy all children received Ventolin but only 12% of children
received glicocorticosteroid inhalators.
Conclusion: Wheezing episodes of very young children
must be properly examined. If wheezing is not a result of infection
triggered by atopic pathogens and in anamnesis was atopy, a possible asthma
manifestation should be considered and appropriate therapy applied.
