Text Box: EFFECTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT STAGE IN CHILDREN ON STUDENT NURSING PRACTICE

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the development stage in children on the contents of learning in pediatric nursing practice.
Methods: In 2000, 73 nursing students in the 3rd academic year participated in this study with informed consent. They were classified into 4 groups based on the age of the children they cared for: 20 in the 0- 1 year group, 30 in the 2-5 year group, 12 in the 6 每 11 year group and 11 in the 12 or above group. The following items on the self-reported evaluation of pediatric nursing practice were analyzed using a 5-point scale: nursing diagnosis area, nursing intervention area and global evaluation. Cluster analysis was used to investigate the evaluation structure among the 4 groups. 
Results: The structure of the 0 每 1 years group was divided into 3 clusters: nursing diagnosis, global care, and nursing intervention. The structure of the 2-5 years group was divided into 3 clusters: nursing diagnosis and evaluation, nursing intervention, and communication skills. Neither of the other 2 groups showed useful clusters. 
Conclusion: The evaluation structure of the 2 每 5 years group showed a more mature learning contents than that of the other 3 groups.
