Diet composition of the enrolled lactating women was investigated.
Results: The milk protein, manganese, natrium, potassium, chlorine, iron, copper in Shanghai was higher than reference value. Significant difference of contents between urban district and suburb was observed, P<0.05. Fat in breast milk was generally lower than reference value. No difference can be found between urban and suburb. Calcium and zinc were also lower than reference value, but there was difference between urban and suburb. Carbohydrates and phosphorus were similar to reference value. No difference can be found between urban and suburb.
Conclusion: The contents of fat, calcium and zinc in milk were low in Shanghai. The contents of natrium and chlorine were apparently high. We suggested that pregnant and lactating women in Shanghai should increase their fat intake and decrease salt intake.
