Objective: To investigate the influence of breast and formula
milk on the development of gastrointestine in preterm neonates.
Methods: 33 cases of preterm neonates were randomly divided
into breast feeding and formula milk feeding group. Gastric emptying was
measured at postnatal 5,7 and 10 days by means of type-B ultrasonography
and the levels of blood motilin and nitric oxide before feeding and at
postnatal 5 day were assayed.
Results: 50% gastric emptying time of breast feeding neonates
at postnatal 5,7 days was shorter than that of formula milk feeding
neonates. The levels of motilin were lower and the levels of nitric oxide
were significantly higher at postnatal 5 day in formula milk feeding group
than that in breast feeding group.
Conclusion:
The maturation of gastric emptying function of breast feeding group is
faster.
