Nowadays three ways of picking newborn's blood are used in Japan.1.Picking blood from artery: mainly radial artery.aslo from arteria dorsalis pedis.2.Picking blood from vein :mainly opisthenar vein.also from brachial vein.3.Picking blood from the blood capilary of the two heels.
In china blood is usually picked from: 1.the artery, mainly the arteria cruralis.2.the vein ,mainly the femoral vein .also from the back of the fontanel.3.the blood capilary.of the fingertip or heel.
The practice of picking blood from the back of the fontanel was abolished in Japan decades ago because of it's possiblely dangerows result and unpredictable future influence. As to picking blood from the femoral vein or artery,it is hand to operate and difficult to stop bleeding by pressure and liable to cause blood stasis and even such iatrogenic complications as injury to nerves and arteria cruralis hock,so it is prohibited in Japan to pick blood from arteria cruralis
And picking blood from the femoral vein is also seldom used.
I think the Japanese way is worth popularizing because it's more advantageous to the newborn's health.
