Text Box: TREATMENT OF VIRAL MYOCARDITIS IN CHILDREN WITH PUERARIN Meng Pu, Zhou Dongfeng Department of Pediatrics, Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong Science and Technology University, Wuhan, China Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the treatment of infantile viral myocarditis with puerarin. Methods: Puerarin was administered intravenously together with conventional treatment in the treated group (69 cases), while that of conventional treatment alone was given in the control group (37 cases). Creatine kinase isoenzyme, lactate dehydrogenase isoenzyme, cardiac function and clinical manifestations before and after treatment were observed. Results: Puerarin could significantly relieve the symptoms of patients of infantile viral myocarditis, enhance the metabolism of myocardium and improve the cardiac function. The total effective rate of the treated group was 88.16%, significantly higher than that of the control group(59.63%), the difference between them was significant﹙X2=4.1436, P< 0.05﹚. Conclusion: Puerarin can be used to treat patients with infantile viral myocarditis with a satisfactory result. 2382
