Colonoptosis-(Paira dx) is one of rare anomalies of large intestines and its ligaments in children. From 1994 to 2001 in our clinic for treatment admitted 28 patients aged from 1 to 17 years, out of them 22 (78%) were girls, while 6 were boys. They were diagnosed on clinical features: abdominal pains, constipation, flatulence and also contrast x-ray studies of GIT. Analyzing the symptoms of Paira dx, the patients were divided into two groups. 1st- the constipation type was diagnosed in 18 children and 2nd ¨Cpainful in 10.Compensated stage was diagnosed in 12, sub-compensated stage in 14, de-compensated in 2. The extend of operation was resection of the transverse colon with transverso-transversoanastomosis end to end, as adopted in our clinic. The results were studied in 12 patients, 6-12 months of post-operative follow up. The growth of the operated children was satisfactory without complaints. X-ray of the colons showed normal large intestines, haustras became normal, and evacuation function of the large intestines became normal.

Therefore, early diagnosis and surgical correction of colonoptosis leads to resumption of normal anatomo-functional condition of gastro-intestinal tract.
