Objective: The objective of this open comparative study was to access the benefit of a new hypoallergenic formula with reduced lactose content (Diarigoz) in comparaison with the dietary treatments routinely prescribed fo infants suffering from acute diarrhoea.

Methods: 129 patients were enrolled, aged between 1 and 12 months not requiring hospitalisation. All patients will received S.R.O. before randomisation.

Results: The safety and acceptability of the milk duration of diarrhoea and weight gain during the 7 days of treatment were simular in both groups. Recurrences of diarrhoea after D7 were significantly less frequent in patients who had received the new milk formula as dietary treatment (2% in group A versus 13,7% in group B – p = 0,05)

Conclusion: Further studies should permit confirmation of these results and clarification of the mode of action of this new formula…
