Text Box: CLINICAL EFFECT OF GROWTH HORMONE IN PATIENTS WITH CLASSICAL DEFFICIENCY AND TURNER SYNDROME. Oliveros Lozano Felipe, MD; Alvarez Arratia Concepcion.MD. Objective: To demostrate de clinical efficacy of biosynthetic Growth Hormone (GH) derived of mammalian cells, (Saizen®), in patients with classical defficiency and Turner Syndrome (TS), used over one year. Methods: An open prospective, experimental, study was conducted. We included ambulatory patients, aged betwen 5-15 years old , with diagnosis of short stature and who have skeletal growth retardation al least 25% compared with Taner-Whitehouse charts, GH seretion less than 10ng/ml after clonidine stimuli, and TS Girls all with normal phisical and haematologic examination. Each patient recieved by subcutaneous injection GH at rate of 0.6u/kg/week, every second day in a diurnal dose ( this kind of application because the socio-cultural pattern of our patients) and the variables measured were initial weight and height, growth velocity, and hematologyc and eskeletal parameters. We also registered the adverse effects of the treatment.The statistical method used was Student’s “T” paried test, with a p< 0.05. Results: We included 7 ambulatory patients (6 females and 1 male), 2 classical defficients and 5 Turner Syndrome girls, that meet the inclusion criteria. All the patients gained at least 6 cm, and the mean was 6.7 cm, within a range of 6-9.5cm/year. The initial and final height diferences gives a diference statistically significative (p<0.01) in regard of linear growth velocity and final height at the end of the treatment. The patients who experienced a major growth velocity were those of classical deficiency in comparision with those of Turner Syndrome . All patients presented no adverse effects with the use of GH in this study. Conclusion:These results demostrate that the use of GH in these patients were efficacious and safe, promoting an increase in height and growth velocity . Also, the GH has a better effect in those patients who have a classical defficiecy in comparision with Turner Syndrome Girls , in spite of this kind of diurnal and dose application. 2505
