Objective: To
observe the therapeutic effect of phentolamine in assisted treament of
refractory asthma.
Methods: Fifty cases
of bronchial asthma Grade II, III in acute bout stage were collected, who
all had a history of repeated attack and had not acquired remittence after
having been treated with routine therapy for two weeks. Based on the use of
steroid hormone and inhalation therapy of β2-receptor stimulant as well as
antispasmodic agent and anti-infective therapy, 25 cases in the observed
group were treated with phentolamine and compared with 25 cases in the
control group.
Results: The
resolution time of clinical symptoms shortened in the observed group
compared with the time in the controlled group. The therapeutic effect of
phentolamine was not affected by the course of asthma. No serious
side-effects appeared during the treatment with phentolamine.
Conclusion: It is
feasible to replaceβ-receptor
stimulant with α-receptor
blocking agent or combine both of them to treat the patients with asthma to
whom routine therapy is ineffective.
