Miao DX

No. 81 Hospital of PLA, Nanjing, China

Objective: To investigate the virus distribution and the clinical features of child respiratory tract infection with enteric cytopathogenic human orphan(EHCO) virus.

Methods: EHCO virus antigen was detected by immunoenzyme assay in the exfoliated nasopharyngeal cells from 97 cases of child pneumonia, acute bronchitis, acute upper respiratory infection. Clinical data of the patients infected with EHCO virus were analysed.

Results: EHCO virus antigen was found in 20 cases and the positive rate was 20.6%, of which 12 cases were pneumonia, 2 acute brochitis, and 6 upper respiratory tract infection, while it was found only in one case in control group. There was significant difference in the positive rate of the antigen between the patients and the control group (P<0.05). All the patients manifested fever, diarrhea and congestion of throat. Besides, skin rash appeared in 13 cases, hot convulsion in 4 cases, temporary myodynamia attenuation of unilateral leg in 2 cases, and trasient increase of some enzymes in 4 cases.

Conclusion: EHCO virus is a common pathogen causing child respiratory tract infection. The patients infected with it manifest meanwhile the symptoms of respiratory tract infection and other organs’ lesion or only those of the former.
