THE EVALUATION OF THE MATERNAL SATISFACTION WITH THEIR CHILDREN HEALTH STATUS

This study aim was maternal rating of current child health at school-age children who are generally healthy.

 

All the mothers of school-aged children (10-12) years in three rural schools in a village near the city were surveyed between May and June 2000. Some 182 mothers responded (90.0%).

Maternal reports were obtained on children well-being and socio-demographic variables.

The child well-being scale 40- item was developed. Satisfaction with children general health, satisfaction with children school works, activities with friends, behavior and these impact on the family were measured. For each statement there was a 5-point response scale. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.69 for this questionnaire. Construct validity of the questionnaire was assessed using Principal Component Analysis.

 

The percentage of girls was 52.7%. Mean mothers age was 36.3±5.3, and mean fathers age was 41.0±5.9. Seventy-eight percentage of the fathers, and % 97.0 of the mothers were no schooling or elementary schooling. Maternal ratings of their children in the absence of current health problems were about child's school works (18.6%)or activities with friends (15.9%). They gave higher scores for most of the items. Most of the mothers (94.5%) were satisfy with their children well being. No differences were found by sex, mother and father schooling.
