BEHAVIORAL MODIFICATION IN
CHILDREN WITH TOURETTE’S SYNDROME

Objective: Gilles
de la Tourette’s syndrome (TS) usually follow with behavior disorders. It’s
difficult to recover by using drugs only. We conducted a study during
1995-1998 to develop and evaluate a kind of psychotherapy suitable for TS.
Methods: 32
children (28 male, 4 female, range 6 to 13 years) suffered TS from 2 months
to 2 years. All of them attended behavior deficiency such as: attention
deficiency, compulsion, social withdrawal and aggressive behavior. The new
treatment to TS include Haloperidol,behavior
modification , family psychotherapy and sports activity. Achenbach Children
Behavior Checklist (CBCL) as a tool for measuring their behavior changes
every 6 months.
Results: After
six months of treatment, patients behavior factor total scores showed
decrease, Behavior deficiency showed a significant improvement in most of
patients such as: animosity with drawl (23/32,72%), aggression (26/32,81%),
disobeying behavior (31/32, 94%), invluntary movements (17/32,54%).
Conclusion:
Implosive therapy may be useful for children with Tourette’s syndrome.
