CLINICAL
ANALYSIS OF 79 CHILDREN WITH LYMPHOMA Xian Y, Xu YH Children’s Hospital, Chongqing University of Medical Sciences,
Chongqing , China Objective: Since 1989, about 79 children with lymphoma
have been hospitalized in our hospital. By studying those cases, we can
share our experience with others and use it for the future work on the
diagnosis and differential
diagnosis of lymphoma. Methods: Seventy-nine children with lymphoma treated in
Children’ Hospital from February 1989 to January 2000 were enrolled in this
study. Patient characteristics have been summarized and analyzed using
literature describing and statistic analysis. Results: The number of male patients was bigger than
that of female. Most cases occurred in those children with 5-10 years old.
The incidence of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma(NHL) was higher than that of
Hodgkin’s disease (HD). For HD, lymph nodes around neck were the primary
first sign and developed slowly. Few other sites of the body were involved
at the beginning. Most cases were in stage Ⅰ. For NHL, lymph nodes
also were the primary sites involved at the beginning, but most of them
were in deep sites such as celiac cavity and mediastina. There were about
15.4% of the other sites involved as the primary first sign at the onset of
the disease. Most of the cases were acute, developed rapidly and metastases
around easily. Thus most of the cases were in stage Ⅲto Ⅳ clinically. Conclusion: HD and NHL in children have different clinical
characteristics, such as the gender, the incidence, the onset symptom and
sign, the disease stage and their development.
