Objective: To study dynamic changes in the cerebral circulation in epilepsy.

Methods: The blood flow velocity of the middle cerebral artery was measured in 46 patients with epilepsy at attack intervals by transcranial ultrasound Doppler’s method, and the relationship between the clinical presentation and the changes in above index was also discussed.

Results: The results showed that the ratio of shower cerebral blood flow in patients with symptomatic epilepsy was higher, but the patients of idiopathic epilepsy showed no abnormality. The patients with shower cerebral blood flow have accompanied mostly by disturbance of intelligence and dyscinesia, unsymmetrical electroencephalogram background wave and abnormal CT changes.

Conclusion: All above results suggest that shower cerebral blood flow velocity in patients during the remittent phase may be related to organic brain damage. And the transcranial ultrasound Doppler’s method may be used as accessory objective examination in the clinical classification and the cerebral function evaluation.
