Objectives: To investigate the
behavioral features of atypical autism children.
Methods: The behaviors of 19
atypical autism children and 14 severe autism children were evaluated and
analysed with Child Autism Rating Scale (CARS) in the areas of social
interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, imitation, visual and
listening response, sense disturbance, objective use, restricted behaviors
and so on.
Results: For the group of
atypical autism, the abnormal frequencies are 100% in social interaction,
verbal communication and visual response, 94.7% in imitation and listening
response, 84.2% in non-verbal communication, 47.4% in restricted behaviors
and 31.5% in sense disturbance.
The rating levels for atypical autism children in social
interaction, non-verbal communication, restricted behaviors and visual
response are significantly lower compared with the group of severe autisms.
Conclusion: Abnormal social
interaction, verbal communication and visual response are important and
common clinical features for atypical autism children, but sense
disturbance and restricted behaviors are not so common as the behaviors above.
Atypical autism children are mainly different in social interaction,
imitation, sense distribution, nonverbal communication and restricted
behaviors from severe autism children.
