lymphadenopathy is a common cause for consultation of a surgeon specialist,
pediatrician, oncologist, even ENTist.
Objective: Lymphadenopathy in
children can be challenging clinical situation that requires a careful
approach and this study we depend on clinical presentation, investigations
and in addition to excisional lymph node lymph node biopsy in comparison
with FNAC.
Patients
and method: 65 patients with unilateral and bilateral cervical
lymphadenopathy were selected from patients admitted to Al-Numan General
Hospital, Al-Karama Teaching Hospital for period extended from 1995-2000.
Results: The study revealed
that:
40 patients TB
12 patients non-specific
lymphadenitis
6
patients primary lymphoma
3
patients acute lymphoblastic leukemia
2
patients infectious mononucleosis
2
patients secondary metastasis from nasopharynx
Conclusions: It was concluded that
accurate diagnostic procedures by using excisonal lymphnode biopsy of
cervical mass in addition to clinical examination is considered as superior
method for the diagnosis than FNAC.
