ETHICS
AND THE NEW GENETICS
Jean Frezal
Hopital des Enfants Malades, PARIS, France
The
recent and prodigious advances in the field of genetics raise great hopes
as well as serious concerns, both being sometimes excessive and misfounded.
Therefore,
it will be useful, to give a brief overview on the new concepts relative to
the genes, their organization, structure and function as well as about
their associated diseases, as an introduction to the presentation of the
resulting ethical problems.
The
core of the lecture will be devoted to the issues of prenatal diagnosis,
preimplantation genetic diagnosis, genetic testing, embryo research and
cloning, considered from a medical and clinical practice point of view.
