Introduction
The European
Union (EU) is the result of a process of co-operation and integration which
began in 1951 between six countries. The EU today has fifteen Member States and
is preparing for its fifth enlargement, this time towards Eastern and Southern
Europe.
Nursing in general in the EU
There are many
categories of nurses within the Member States of the EU. To become a general
care nurse the age of the applicants differs per country and is between 16 and
19 years. The education to become a general care nurse is in most countries on
academic level. In some countries general care nurses work on two levels.
Specialist Nurses in the EU
In some of the
countries of the EU specialist nurses, like paediatric nurses, are trained
after acquiring the general care nurse qualification. Many countries have
groups of nurses who are not general care nurses. These nurses have not been
trained as general care nurses but for more specific nursing duties.
Paediatric Nurses in the EU
To become a
paediatric nurse differs per country. In some countries it is first necessary
to be a general care nurse before the education and training to become a
paediatric nurse can start. In other countries one can start immediately with
the education and training of a paediatric nurse.
In this presentation the data as mentioned above will be amplified.
