The aim of the study: To determine the reaction of some biochemical parameters of term newborns on asphyxia. who fulfilled the basic criteria of asphyxia.

Methods: The series consisted of 24 term asphyxial newborns (TAN) and 15 healthy term newborns (I'I IN). In both groups of patients on 1st and 5th day of life the values of the quotient DeRitis, malondialdehyd (MDA), superoxiddismutase (SOD), glutationperoxidase (GPX) and total antioxidant status (TAS) were investigated.

Results: In a case of TAN on 1st/5th day of life the values of quotient DeRitis 3.3±0.9/3.1±2.59; MDA 2.08'0.22/2.2110.34 µmol/l; TAS 1.1±0.08/0.98±0.08 mmol/l; SOD 509.18±26.8/564.441±36.4 Ug/Hh and GPX 30.2±1.9/32.45±2.69 Ug/Hb were obtained. In a case of THN on 1st/5th day of life the values of quotient DeRitis 3.3510.6/2.1410.6; MDA 0.72±0.07/1.08±0.09 mmol/l, SOD 594.2± 16.47/591.23±14.14 Ug/Hb and GPX 25.48±l.32/25.98±1.2 Ug/Hh were obtained.

Conclusion: Statistically important difference was confirmed on 1st and 5th day of life in values of MDA (**p≥0.01) and TAS (**p≤0.01) between both investigated groups. Increased values of MDA on 1st and 5th day of life in TAN established the presence of Iipoperoxidation (LP). Surprisingly increased values of TAS on 1st and 5th day of life in TAN can pointed to certain ability of TAN to prevent the imbalance between overproduction of MDA and antioxidants. the results of rest parameters (quotient DeRitis. SOD. (GPX) were not statistically important. Values of quotient DeRitis in FAN not only better expressed the reaction of liver enzymes to asphyxia but also showed to improvement of liver function on 5th day of life.
